New Identity !

6:51 AM

Last week, I put a post on my Facebook and Instagram asking for your opinions.
I asked -

I got a total of 88 comments/votes with the following break down:
26 people voted for option 1
41 people voted for option 2
20 people voted for option 3

It was interesting to see that a majority of people who voted for Option 1 were from a creative field - design, fashion, photography, arts etc

Most people who voted for Option 2 were people with day jobs, businesses (not necessarily associated with the arts)

And I really couldn't find a pattern for people who voted for 3 :)

I also had a couple people tell me that they still like my first logo more than any of the options and I should stick to it. Here is my first original logo -

Let me explain why I'm choosing to re-design my logo:
Madi Things has evolved to have 2 sides to it - 'Graphic Design' and 'Merchandise'.

I'm not an animator anymore and that title needed to be removed.

Under merchandise - I illustrate colorful / quirky / funky designs and print them on mugs, phone covers, keychains etc and sell that merch on my online store:

I think my first logo fits perfectly for the fun stuff that I do. Its Madi 'Things' for the fun things I make. Its handwritten to signify hand-made (since I print in house). And it has a lot of character.

But over the years, I have also done a decent amount of corporate / commercial work - Branding, poster design, wedding stationery etc.

I would generally avoid using my logo for all the commercial work that I did. It just didn't go. It wasn't serious enough to put on an invoice for a corporate design. So I used my name instead-

What I am looking to achieve with my new logo is a balance between quirky and commercial.
I want to have a singular entity that can represent both - my merchandise as well as graphic design.

So between the three options, Option 3 (in my opinion) looks like the perfect combination of corporate and quirky. It is also the closest to my previous logo; so I can remain consistent with the look.

However, I absolutely love the feather and rocket motif and don't want to get rid of it.
So a friend of mine, Sumaiya, came up with the brilliant idea of having a dynamic logo.
Since it is 'things' my thing can change from a paper rocket, to a feather, or anything else I like :)
Kind of inspired by Google - they have a new theme every day .. mine will be a new 'thing' every month !
So to start off with, let's keep the rocket since it pulled the most votes. And also because I'm making some serious travel plans :)

What do you think of my idea and new logo? Would love to hear from you.
